Frequently Asked Question

How do I enter my work for IRS?
Last Updated 6 months ago

Your work on the IRS course should be recorded using the Dentistry Portfolio so that you and your tutors can see your progress towards the course's targets.

After each IRS session, you should record the procedures that you have undertaken on the Portfolio in the IRS section, entering one visit for each session in the CSLE.

When entering your work make sure that:

  • You have ticked the box to indicate that it was carried out in the skills lab
  • You have selected the correct teeth for each procedure

Failure to do the above will cause you issues when claiming the completed multi-step procedures at the end of the course.

Targets

The IRS course has targets set for:

  • Different kinds of preparation and for the fitting of temporary crowns etc.
  • Completed indirect restorations

The individual preparation targets can be achieved as you work your way through the course, however, the "Completed indirect restoration" target requires that you submit a multi-step procedure. The impression step of this multi-step procedure is carried out during a dedicated session near to the end of the course - so this target cannot be achieved until after this session

Once this is complete you will be able to claim your completed multi-step procedures in the normal way for each of the different types of indirect restorations all at once.

Only the impression carried out in this session should be used for claiming the multi-step procedure - you should not use any study impressions taken to support your learning as steps towards this target.

NB your impression procedure can be re-used  to claim multiple indirect multi-step procedures if the prepared tooth is one of the teeth selected for the impression.
